Ferndale Community – 03/05/2020
The work of Support Ferndale Schools is to advocate for funding that supports each and every student in our community. This week, one of our members posted a racist and hurtful message on our campaign page. Anya Milton has offered her resignation as author of the post and the citizen committee has accepted that resignation. We in no way endorse the message she posted, which hurt so many in our community.
We know that words of apology are not enough. Our community will need time to reflect and learn. We are committed to doing everything we can to help that process.
There is no excuse for the post that was made, and while it does not reflect the opinions of our committee, we take responsibility for it and apologize. We will also seek to meet in person with Lummi Nation tribal leaders to apologize.
While we work through these issues, we will continue our efforts to advocate for school funding. Our group will meet again this week to talk about how we can start to make amends, as well as the future of our levy work and restructuring of our leadership.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Rob Fickeisen, Connie Faria, Maralise Fegan
