[October 7, 2018] I grew up in Dayton, Washington and attended Washington State University where I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Sciences with an emphasis in economics and reproductive physiology. While at WSU, I met my wife Kristi, a Ferndale native. After college, we lived in Georgia and then central Washington for a few years. Shortly after our first daughter was born, we had the opportunity to move to Ferndale for my job with Cargill, which now operates Ferndale Grain.
Through my job as a dairy management consultant for operations around Washington and Oregon, I help make financial decisions, create budgets, manage expenses, maximize efficiency, and develop plans for the future. My experience in these areas will hopefully be a benefit to the oversight committee. At the county level, I have served on two committees: Drayton Harbor Shellfish committee, and I was chairperson of the Purchase of Development Rights committee.
I have lived in Ferndale for 20 years, and both of our children are FHS graduates. Emily graduated in 2016 and is a junior at Gonzaga University; Meghan is a 2018 graduate and is a freshman at Washington State University. My wife and I have both been very active volunteers and mentors for youth in our community, including coaching Ferndale FFA Career Development Events, leading a 4-H club, and coaching youth soccer teams.
Our daughters received a fantastic education at Ferndale High School that has prepared them for their futures, though they also experienced some shortcomings of the physical facilities. Like many tax payers, I have concerns with the way funds have been used in the past and hope that by being part of this oversight committee, I can help ensure the money will be used as expected.
